Beliefs based on experience

A brief reflection. Over the weekend my brain melted when two people I follow with incessant regularity, Tim Ferriss and Krista Tippett, came together for an interview. It did not disappoint and I highly recommend you give it a listen.

But if you prefer my top takeaway it would have to be Krista’s review of opinion vs. experience saying, "I can disagree with your opinion but I cannot disagree with your experience.” The next time you find yourself in disagreement with someone over various beliefs or reflecting on your own ask, “what experiences have formed this opinion?” I dare to say we will discover two things:

  1. A reminder of the humanity in others

  2. Beliefs that are held simply because we are supposed to hold them.

Honest conversations with ourself and others is something we need today. Be the person to take that brave plunge.

Go Forth Boldly

“Anger is what fear and pain look like when they show themselves in public.”
